Donald Fayne O’Connell, 66, of Mexia, passed away on Feb. 8, 2018, in Mexia. Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 12, at Jones Funeral Services Chapel. Judge Ray Jones officiated. Interment followed at Mexia Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Jacob O’Connell, Tyler Samford, Travis Samford, Sam Wright, William O’Connell and Dwight Cannon. Family visitation was held Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. O’Connell was born on Dec. 21, 1951, in Mexia, to Leroy Melvin “Mike” and Vida Lorene Carlisle O’Connell. He retired after 33 years of service as a mail carrier and window clerk with the Mexia Post Office. Donnie loved the outdoors, driving the backroads, and hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon Gwen O’Connell; his parents and siblings and their spouses, JoAnn Cannon and husband Gene, Peg Fisk and husband Bill, Michael O’Connell, Van O’Connell and Patrick O’Connell.
Mr. O’Connell is survived by his son, Patrick O’Connell and wife Cynthia, of New Braunfels; daughter Jennifer Samford and husband Kevin, of Mexia; grandchildren Travis Samford, Katherine O’Connell, Rileigh O’Connell, Tyler Samford, Jacob O’Connell and Carleigh Samford; great-grandchildren Hayden Samford and Emery Samford; sisters-in-law Reba O’Connell, Linda O’Connell, Kay O’Connell, Gail Grinstead, Jerre Pruitt and Caroline Hallmark and husband Bobby; brother-in-law Johnny Wright and wife Janie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
