Bruce R. Carter, 89, of Fort Worth, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016 in Fort Worth.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 10 at Coolidge Cemetery in Limestone County, with Rev. Robert Barnett officiating.
Bruce was born Feb. 15, 1927 on a farm in Coolidge, to Dave and Elizabeth (Curry) Carter. After his graduation from Coolidge High School, he served in the Army until his discharge at the end of World War II. He then moved to Fort Worth where his family had moved after having to sell the farm while he was gone. Bruce got a job working for his brother for two years in Odessa before returning to Fort Worth and working for Peterbilt, Cummins, Mobil and Hobbs before going to work for the Dallas County Treasurer’s Office. He then went to work for the Tarrant County Treasurer’s Office and when that office was abolished, he worked for the Tarrant County Auditor’s Office where he stayed until he retired.
Bruce was a wonderful son, brother, husband and father who will be missed by all who knew him and will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, an infant brother, Vernon Carter, Mervyn Carter, Mike Carter and Bessie Erickson Splawn and his wife, Marquetta “Keta” Louise (Goode) Carter.
Bruce is survived by his daughter, Christi Elizabeth Carter of Fort Worth and several other extended family members and many friends.
