Charley Lee Daniel, 81, of Mexia, passed away May 25, 2016 in Groesbeck.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 27, at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Brother John McElroy officiating. Interment was in the Lost Prairie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Billy Sims, Charley Daniel II, Jack Rush, Jonathan Bible, Johnny Rogers and Ben Garner.
Charley was born in Tolar, to Ed and Norvella Sanders Daniel. He grew up in Tulia, where he played outstanding basketball for Tulia High School, and graduated class of 1955. Charley worked for the Dallas Police Department for 21 years, Pullman Pools in Fort Worth for 10 years and Lightsey’s Peach Orchard in Mexia for 10 years. He was also a member of the Texas National Guard.
Charley was known locally as “Chuck,” while back home in Tulia, everyone called him “Buddy.” Regardless of what he was called, his love of the great outdoors and animals remained the same. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting and being with his dog, and faithful companion, Britches. Charley was friendly, had an outgoing personality and was loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Vickie Daniel Vaughn; and sister, Jo Daniel McCaslin.
Charley is survived by his loving wife, Ruthie Daniel of Mexia; son, Joe Edd Daniel and wife, Holley of Grand Prairie; stepdaughter, Linda Smith of Waco; and grandson, Charley Lee Daniel II.
