Ima Lucille Rosson Burroughs, 95, of Weatherford, and formally of Mexia, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 8 at First United Methodist Church, 203 N. Canton, with the Reverend Brad Brittain officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wed. Dec, 7 at Blair Stubbs from 5-7 p.m.

Ima was born Aug. 26, 1921 in Mexia to W. C. and Eather Neisler Rosson. Ima lived all of her life in Mexia, until moving to Weatherford with her husband, Tad, in 2011 to be near their daughter, Emily Prowell. She was a retired telephone operator with Southwestern Bell for 30 years.

Ima met Calvin (Tad) Burroughs, the love of her life, in Mexia, in 1949, while he was employed with Southern Pacific Railroad. They were married Sept 5, 1952 in Mexia. They built a home on Hopkins St. in 1956 and lived there together for 55 years. Ima was very involved in the Methodist Church in Mexia, including the Parley Wiggins Women’s Circle and many other activities with the church. She and Tad were involved in the Adult Fellowship group at FUMC. Ima, also was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Las Amigas group, the Garden Club, and volunteer in the Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She and Tad loved to work in the yard and grow flowers, especially roses.

Ima loved people and loved to travel with Tad. After retirement, they were able to take several cruises with friends and took ballroom dancing lessons. Although Ima retired from Southwestern Bell, she never really stopped working. She became a bookkeeper for several years at Casual Fashions and also kept books at the First Methodist Preschool. She only retired from that job as she was in her 80’s at the time. Ima was a wonderful, caring Christian wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. After moving to Weatherford, while at the assisted living center, she continued to be an encourager to those around her.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren while they were growing up. After the great-grandchildren came along, it was such a delight to get to see them over the last several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Calvin K. (Tad) Burroughs; sisters, Oleta Evans, Ina Bell Rosson, Mary Fleming, and infant brother, Willie C. and twin brother and sister, Melvin and Mildred Rosson.

Ima is survived by her daughter, Emily Prowell and husband, David of Weatherford; son Michael Burroughs and wife, Vicki, of San Antonio; grandchildren, Normand Burroughs and wife, Catherine, of Crofton, Md., Ben Prowell and wife, Jarryn, of Levelland and Sarah Davis and husband, Alex of Lubbock; four great-grandchildren, Alexa Burroughs and Emberly, Hudson and Preston Prowell; and many nieces and nephews.

Before moving to Weatherford, a special thanks to neighbors Bug and Joan Paschall, for their many, many acts of kindness. In Weatherford, members at South Main Church of Christ, and the Ladies Encouragement class treated Ima like she was one of their own.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Asst. living for the loving family environment they provided for the last 5 ½ years, the loving assistance of Visiting Physicians VPA, Weatherford Health Care, Kendrid Home Health and Hospice.
